Safety & Troubleshooting

If a circuit suddenly loses power, you can perform a quick, safe check:

  • Look for a tripped breaker — A tripped breaker often sits between ON and OFF.
  • Reset it properly — Flip the breaker all the way to OFF, then firmly back to ON.
  • Check for repeated trips — If the breaker trips again, stop troubleshooting. This usually indicates an overload, short, or failing device.

If a breaker continues tripping, contact us for professional troubleshooting.

Common reasons include:

  • Overloaded circuits (too many devices on one line)
  • Faulty appliances
  • Damaged wiring
  • Moisture exposure
  • Loose connections inside the panel

A repeatedly tripping breaker is a sign of a deeper issue. For safety, avoid resetting it multiple times and call a licensed electrician.

A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protects you from electrical shock by shutting off power when it detects an imbalance — often caused by moisture, worn cords, or faulty devices.

GFCIs are typically found in:

  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Garages
  • Outdoor areas
  • Laundry rooms

You can try these steps:

  • Locate the GFCI — It may be the outlet with "TEST" and "RESET" buttons, or it may be upstream from the outlet that lost power.
  • Press RESET firmly — If it clicks and stays in, power should return.
  • Press TEST — This confirms the outlet is functioning properly.
  • Check for moisture — If the outlet is near water, ensure the area is dry before resetting.
  • Unplug devices first — A faulty appliance can prevent the GFCI from resetting.

If the GFCI won't reset, it may be worn out or there may be a wiring issue.

Many homes have GFCIs wired to protect several downstream outlets. If multiple outlets lose power at once, the GFCI controlling them may be located:

  • In a bathroom
  • In the garage
  • Outside
  • Behind an appliance
  • In a laundry area

No. Breaker replacement requires panel access, which carries shock and arc-flash risks. Only licensed electricians should replace breakers or open a panel.

If you suspect a breaker is failing, contact us.

Flickering lights can be caused by:

  • Loose bulb connections
  • Failing light fixtures
  • Overloaded circuits
  • Voltage fluctuations
  • Loose neutral connections

If flickering happens across multiple rooms, it may indicate a service-level problem that requires immediate attention.

A warm outlet can signal:

  • Overloaded circuits
  • Loose wiring
  • Failing devices
  • Worn receptacles

Unplug everything from the outlet and contact us for a safety inspection.

No. Power strips and extension cords are temporary solutions. Long-term use can cause overheating, tripping hazards, and circuit overloads.

If you need more outlets, we can install permanent, code-compliant solutions.
